Lemonade - If You Make it, They Will Come!

Recipe

1 1 /2- 2 packets of sugar-free lemonade (the kind of packet that makes 2 quarts) Lemon Orange Cherries Start with two quarts of water. Use 1 & 1 /2 to 2 packets of lemonade mix. Yes, it starts out a little bit strong, but as you add ice it will dilute a bit. We use the sugar-free because of diabetics in the family. My favorite brand is True Lemon because it has a lighter color and not as yellow as the Great Value brand from Walmart. It also has a big tangier taste. Great Value was used in the image above.

Add Fruit

Wash and slice an orange and lemon and add the slices to the pitcher. Squeeze any juice from the leftover "end" pieces into the pitcher. You can remove seeds if you want to take the time. My family just has to fend for themselves. Add a few cherries for "eye candy." Rinse the cherries off before you add to the pitcher unless you want a pinkish look. Sometimes I've left cherries as they were and even added a little bit of the cherry juice. Add some ice to the pitcher, and after the first couple of glasses are poured, add a little more. lemonade

1950's Lemonade

If you are lemonade purist or don't want to use artificial sweaters, here's a recipe for you. It's from my mother's 1950 Betty Crocker Cookbook. Betty Crocker knew a thing or two about cooking and about lemonade.betty crocker first edition picture cook book Combine in a saucepan: 1 cup of sugar 1 cup of water The rind of 2 lemons, cut into pieces Stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Boil about 7 minutes. Cool. Add: 1 cup lemon juice (5 to 6 lemons) 4 cups ice water Pour over ice in a pitcher or tall glasses. Yields about 6 to 8 servings.

Lemonade is a refreshing drink. This pitcher of lemonade was still sitting out on the counter and the hubby just came in from mowing the lawn. He came to my office and asked "that lemonade......it is for us to drink...or is it just for pictures or something? It's pretty and I didn't want to drink it unless it was okay." It's to drink I told him. It's nice when someone Hint: Keep it in the frig, you can use the same fruit slices for another batch or two. Just add more water and drink mix.
