"Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat..." is a familiar Christmas carol refrain. In Victoria England eating goose for Christmas dinner was a popular tradition and a rare pleasure. It came to symbolize thankfulness and remind those who ate it to be grateful for their blessings.
