Teaching Children to Read

To promote reading in children, a special group from the Grand Rapids Community College put together a package of delightful products to present to children. The packet included a Gingerbread story book, a packet of ingredients with cookie cutter to make cookies and a Burton and Burton Gingerbread apron. A bit of their abstract: Early Accent on Reading and Learning for Young Children (EARLY) will develop Centers of Early Childhood Educational Excellence at five sites that serve 144 children each year of the program in urban Grand Rapids, Michigan. EARLY is a partnership between Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC), Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS), and the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids (YMCA). Wish we could see the looks on the faces of these children when they receive their packets! Kudos to Grand Rapids Community College!
