Creating Shapes with Glamor Rope and Deco Flex Tubing

Yesterday I blogged about some Valentine wreaths made by Holiday Dressings by Shelia and she had created a heart shape from inserting a wire into Deco Flex Tubing. This sounded like such a great idea I decided to play with a little Deco Flex Tubing today along with some Glamour Rope. I tried several different things inside the Deco Flex Tubing. Floral wire that I had was just too thin, chenille stems or pipe cleaners worked okay, not quite as stiff as I would have preferred. I even put a Glitzy stick and tried that......much stiffer and would work well for larger shapes. Smaller shapes worked okay with pipe cleaners. This was my attempt at a shamrock.....pay no attention to the color....I was using bits of Flex Tubing that I had left over from projects. It helped if you used the same color pipe cleaner in the Flex Tubing as the Flex Tubing or close to it anyway. Using Flex Tubing in this manner would be a great way to add embellishments to your wreaths or arrangements. Plus a package of Deco Flex Tubing contains 30 yards....that would create quite a few shapes. I also experimented with Glamour Rope. Glamour rope comes in 25 ft lengths and is heavily sequined and wired. It can be easily cut with wire cutters. It holds it shape well and is forgiving if you have to straighten it out and start over. I started out just making some curls and swirls. Glityz Sticks also are perfect for swirling, curling and bending into shapes..... The Glitzy sticks are 36" in length and also can be cut with wire cutters. They are heavily glittered, some glitter will come off when you're working with them but it isn't noticeable. They're the perfect length to work with when you need a long tail. I need just more practice time!
